“just keep on, keeping on”

When I was growing up, my pastor used this quote very often – “just keep on, keeping on” – and I never understood the wisdom and value in it until the last 5 years since rheumatoid arthritis (RA)diagnosis. Even though both of my grandmothers and my mother had RA, I didn’t know the strength, determination, and courage required to keep going day after day. To keep on, keeping on with work, family, church, and life without complaining or giving in to the pain, exhaustion, or frustration. And now, 5 years later, it’s not any easier (especially with new symptoms prompting the additional diagnosis of lupus) but it’s never without HOPE! Hope not just for a cure but hope for others to gain strength, determination, and courage for their lives through finding the hope that never disappoints in Jesus Christ. Jesus is Who holds me together everyday because only He is stronger than any suffering, including chronic illness. Psalm 73:26 has become a lifeline for me – “My flesh and my heart may fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” And Jesus can help you to keep on, keeping on if you will ask Him to…
